We know the struggle of caring for sensitive skin, so we put together a few of the best tips we have learned over the years. Your skin and your health are intricately connected, so here's some holistic tips for supporting both:
1) Remove any product with "fragrance", perfume, or scent.
Switch to unscented products to avoid harsh chemical perfumes or even potentially irritating essential oils. When in doubt, take it out. This also includes household products that come into contact with your skin like cleaning products and laundry detergent.
2) Avoid hand sanitizer, especially repeated use.
Hand sanitizers strips the natural moisture barrier of your skin and disrupts the microbiome. The alcohol in hand sanitizer if the culprit for this and the dry feeling your hands have afterwards. It was originally created for doctors who didn't have time to wash their hands in between patients as a quick fix for killing bacteria and viruses. In most cases, good 'ole soap and water will do the job perfectly well.
3) Use body products with simple ingredients.
Check the products you are using on your skin and make sure they have simple, gentle ingredients. Look up ingredients if you're not sure what they are.
4) Eat nutrient-dense foods with vitamins & minerals.
Your body is good and designed to heal itself when it has the right fuel it needs. Make sure you're eating a balanced diet with fruits, veggies, protein and healthy fats. Practice awareness of what you put in your body.
5) Get fresh air & sunlight daily.
Early morning sun exposure is free red light therapy, and can help boost skin healing and regeneration. Getting outside has been shown to improve mood and overall well-being, which puts your body in the right mindset for healing and health. Health isn't just physical, it's mental too.
6) Keep drinking lots of water throughout the day.
Your body needs to be hydrated to replenish its natural moisture barrier. Ditch the coffees and sodas for more of what your skin needs: pure, clean water!
